“EU'S FUTURE IS NOT SEPARATE FROM CYPRUS”

In the beginning of the academic year 2011-2012 of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) in Gazimagusa, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis gave an opening lecture on “EU’s future and Cyprus”, and he said that Cyprus had an important place in the EU’s future.
Bagis continued his speech as follows:
“The EU could not have a future independent from Cyprus. Maintenance of the European Union’s sustainability in the new world conjuncture is totally indexed on TRNC and Turkey. The EU without Turkey and TRNC will be incomplete in its international relations.”
Bagis indicated that the current problem was not Turkey’s membership date, but the EU’s own future, and he also emphasized that Turkey and TRNC had the necessary experiences and elements for solving Europe’s problems. Minister Bagis said, “The discussions will end only if TRNC and Turkey become full members and thus ensure that the EU becomes a platform of international peace and tolerance.”
Egemen Bagis met with Dervis Eroglu, TRNC President, İrsen Kucuk, the Prime Minister and Huseyin Ozgurgun, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Bagis also visited Rauf Denktas, the first President of TRNC at the hospital.
