LANGUAGE OF PEACE WILL PREVAIL AGAINST TERRORISM

Delivering a speech at the ceremony of “European Language Award” organized by the Centre for European Union Education and Youth Programmes, Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, stated that the language of peace would dominate the world.

In the ceremony held at Ankara Dedeman Hotel, Minister for EU Affairs said that the language of peace would prevail against the language of terrorism and that they would work for this. Bagis added: “Today, in the European Day of Languages, we should protect the language of peace more than ever. Our language, Turkish, is the language of love and we will protect our language. Today, people all over the world continuously try to learn Turkish because they witness that Turkish is the language of love”.

Recalling Rumi’s saying, “Not the ones speaking the same language but the ones sharing the same feelings can understand each other”, Bagis underlined the importance of sharing the same feelings rather than speaking the same language with Europe. Bagis added: “In such a meaningful and important day, Turkey and Europe’s common sensitivity proves that they share the same feelings.”

In his message regarding September 26, European Day of Languages, Bagis stated that Turkish is a more commonly spoken languages in comparison with the languages of some EU countries. He added: “We are aware of the importance of our language, for this reason, our culture is taking its place within the Union before our accession. European Union promotes the European children in learning at least two foreign languages. I also encourage young people in this issue as I believe that Turkish youth having a good command of foreign languages can help our voice to be heard better both in Europe and the world. By this means, I would like to thank our citizens for keeping our culture alive in Europe and I celebrate the European Day of Languages.”
