BULGARIA IS AN IMPORTANT ALLY SUPPORTING TURKEY'S EU BID

Meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov at the Ministry for EU Affairs in Ankara, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis indicated that Bulgaria was not only Turkey's neighbor, but a very important ally supporting its EU bid.

Bagis said that they executed many projects with Bulgaria especially in the area of cross border cooperation and that they attached great importance to Bulgaria's support in terms of Turkey's EU bid. Bagis added that Bulgaria and Romania, which have recently joined the Union, "pawed the way for the EU".

Emphasizing that Turkey achieved a significant progress in its EU bid, Mladenov said that they were pleased to have an opportunity to share their experience and knowledge as well as their ideas regarding the difficulties they faced as a country which has recently joined the Union.
