JUNE 12th: THE STATUS QUO OR WILL OF PEOPLE?
Participating in the live program on Kanal 24, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated that the elections to be held on 12 June would be a preference between status quo and national will.
Answering the questions in the programme "Moderator Haftasonu" broadcasted on 06.06.2011, when asked the reason for the rising tension during the election atmosphere, Bagis said that it was an attack made towards AK Party and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Bagis pointed out the fact that, until that time, not in any election period was there an assault on the election bus of the prime minister two times. Bagis gave examples to similar assaults carried out towards his party and added that those were quite worrying.
Bagış said: "It is seen that the opposing parties can not bear the prevalence of the national will. Instead of struggling through democratic means, applying terror and violence..."
Stating that the citizens would make a preference between the status quo and national will, Bagis said the following:
"It is likely that the citizens will vote for those who build roads, hospitals, schools, dams, lower the price of medicines, increase the average income of the citizens, ensure economic development in Turkey and Turkey's foreign policy stature, but not for those who prepare deputy lists with the instructions of the gangs and are remote from the perspectives of the citizens."
