ASSOCIATING SUPREME BOARD OF ELECTION'S DECISION TO GOVERNMET IS NEGLEGENCE
Making statements on Bloomberg HT TV regarding current issues, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis answered the question on the Supreme Board of Election's (YSK) rejection of the candidacy of independent politicians.
Attending the program "Gulin Yildirimkaya ile HT Gündem", Bagis stated that the ones who wished to associate those developments concerning the YSK to the Government were really in negligence.
Bagis indicated that that was the decision of the YSK, a completely independent board which consists of independent members of the judiciary and continued as follows:
"There have been other decisions given by this Board up till today. It was the same Supreme Board of Election which did not approve to provide our citizens living abroad the possibility of voting at the embassies or consulates in the countries where they live. Then, we were the ones who were reproaching.
However, we have to respect the independency of independent institutions in democratic regimes. Even though I do not approve this decision, I believe that we have to examine the reasons of the decision more carefully and respect it."
Bagis stated that there was not a clear picture about the decision, there could still be some changes and there were still documents expected to be submitted, so it was necessary to wait and follow the process.
