WE WILL NOT AIM GUNS TO OUR LIBYAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, commenting on Turkey's Libyan policy and the military operation carried out against Libya, said: "We prevented a fait accompli in Libya."
In the statement he made during his visit to Macedonia, Bagis indicated that Turkey did not have designs on lands and natural resources of any country and continued as follows:
"Turkey will never aim guns to the nation of Libya, a friend and brother country. Turkey displayed sensitivity towards the efforts of some opportunist minds in Europe to comprehend and implement the decision of the UN outside the scope of NATO and in such a way which best suits their own purposes."
Indicating that Turkey did not make a U-turn over Libya, Bagis stated that Turkey had prevented a fait accompli in Libya. "If our Prime minister had not asked what NATO had to do in Libya they, without waiting for the decision of the EU, would have made NATO forces enter Libya weeks ago" said Bagis.
Bagis continued:
"Turkish army in Afghanistan fulfilled important duties under NATO. However it never aimed guns to our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan. Similarly we will not aim guns to our brothers and sisters in Libya. Turkey will establish the corridors required to transport humanitarian aid materials to our Libyan brothers and sisters in need. Turkey will play an important role in supplying the necessary materials such as water and medicine."
