BRITAIN REITERATES ITS SUPPORT TO TURKEY'S EU BID

Accompanying Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Britain, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis met with Britain's Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, David Lidington, and also delivered a speech at the conference "Turkey and Growth".

Meeting with Lidington in London, Minister Bagis stated that Turkey was aware of Britain's strong support to Turkey's EU membership bid, and continued his words as follows, "However, we should be sure that we have widen the scope and convinced other EU member states, and we shouldn't allow some countries to use such an important global peace project in their bilateral relations."

Emphasizing Britain's support to Turkey's EU membership bid, The Minister for Europe, Lidington, said that he declared their support during his visits to EU member states.

Delivering a speech at the conference "Turkey and Growth", jointly organized by Foreign Economic Relations Council and Turkish-British Business Council, Minister Bagis said, "The oppositions and obstructions experienced by Turkey during its EU accession process are surprising and irrational". During his speech, Minister Bagis also referred to the opportunities to be provided by Turkey's membership.
