    YOUNG TRANSLATORS CONTEST ENDS

    The students who were placed in "Young Translators Contest" organized by the Secretariat General for European Union Affairs (EUSG) were awarded with a plaque by the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis.
    Bagis indicated that this competition which was organized the first time this year would be held annually hereafter, and he noted that after being a member of the EU, Turkish would be one of the official languages of the EU, thus they would need translators. Bagis said that they established the Directorate of Translation Coordination in the Secretariat General for EU Affairs, they took an important step for translating the EU acquis which consists of 120000 pages; and he indicated that they gave a high importance to the education of young population.
    Noting that regarding translation they took an action for a project addressing to society and this competition project was occurred as a result, Bagis said the students who were placed in the competition would firstly intern in Brussels, and after this internship 3 of them would intern in a national newspaper agency.
    Bagis said "From now on Turkey is more liberal country", and he noted that on 26 January, he would be in Brussels to participate the Friends of Turkey Intergroup meeting in the European Parliament.
