EU PROCESS DOES NOT DEPEND ON CYPRUS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis expressed that Turkey was ready for any contingency over the Cyprus issue and Turkey could only open its ports and harbors if the EU honored the promises it had made and took simultaneous steps.

Making a statement to the Simerini newspaper Bagis pointed out that Turkey's EU process did not hinge on the Cyprus issue and Turkey did not take such threats well.

Upon a question about the expectations of Turkey from the EU Summit, Bagis replied it as follows:

"We are ready to open our harbors and ports to Greek Cypriot vessels and planes. Is Europe ready for keeping its word and implement the resolutions it made? Is it ready to do direct trade with the Turkish Cyprus and land its planes at the Ercan Airport? After this, all ports and harbors will be opened to Greek Cypriot vessels and planes. We do not want a new decision. We want Europe to apply its decision."
