    "YOUNG COMMUNICATORS ON THE PATH TO EU" COMPETITION

    The introductory meeting of "Young Communicators on the Path to EU" competition was held by the participation of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis and the competition related academics.
    At the meeting arranged by Secretariat General for EU Affairs, Minister Bagis delivered a speech and pointed out that the EU membership was a very significant process for modernization, democratization, transparency and getting rid of its own fears of Turkey.
    Expressing that it was a natural right to make comments on every topic in Turkey, Bagis said that to produce projects and to take on responsibility for overcoming troubles were new attempts for the Turkish culture.
    Noting that they tried to concentrate on the issues of education and communication, Bagis, reminded the preparation of EU Communication Strategy, and added that they supported over 200 activities within the scope of this strategy last year.
    Indicating that there was a deputy governor related to the EU in every province of Turkey and also a deputy secretary in every ministry, Bagis continued his speech in this way:
    “Perhaps, this will be an opportunity to discuss. We are open to the works discussing why EU was good for Turkey and to the works which demand the EU to make a conscious and logic criticisms. I believe wholeheartedly that these types of projects are useful to share the ideas with the rest of society.”
    Indicating that it was very important for him to get such a support from the academicians and universities, Bagis said that this process had a very important place in Turkey’s modernization, democratization, becoming transparent and avoiding its fears. Indicating that they needed the support of the opposition, civil society organizations, academia, media; Bagis said that “All this is about our common future.”
