TURKEY'S FIVE IMPORTANT EXPECTATIONS IN THE PERIOD OF EU NEGOTIATIONS

Taking the floor at the meal that was given to the honor of "Turkey's Friends Group" of European Parliament, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış enlisted five important expectations of Turkey in the period of EU negotiation period.

At the speech he delivered at meal organized by Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) and Anatolia Businessmen Federation (ANFED) Bagis expressed that their initial demand was "fair negotiation conditions".

Bagis pointed out that second important expectation was "collaboration on counter terrorism". Reminding the bomb attack in İstanbul, Bagis expressed that some terrorist groups were seriously active in Europe and he wanted from his European shareholders to take some absolute measures against this issue.

Emphasizing that the third important expectation was the subject of visa, Bagis said Turkish people felt themselves least European when they were waiting in line for visa and added that the visa-free travels would diminish the fears and increase communication between people.

Stating that the fourth subject was on Cyprus, Bagis said ‘The greatest members of the EU are hiding behind this beautiful island’.

Egemen Bagis also indicated that Turkey and other candidate countries should be invited to the EU Summits as it was until 2004.
