BLACK SEA ENERGY AND ECONOMIC FORUM
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended the "Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum" held by the Atlantic Council in Istanbul. In his speech, Bagis stated that "globalization" which was one of the most important words 30 years ago, needed to be redefined today.
Minister Bagis stated that a balanced, fair and sustainable development was a must along with globalization throughout the world.
Bagis reminded that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the fact that energy chapter wasn't included in the negotiation process yet was disappointing them and added that Europe's energy needs would be met by Turkey.
Stating that Istanbul was an integration point bringing the East and the West together, Bagis continued his speech as follows:
"Protective walls should be lifted after the crises. Free trade is the solution to the problem. Integration and cooperation are the key words. Otherwise, trading volume would decrease, unemployment would increase and social unrest would prevail. We should work together. We should be integrated within our area, should be globally connected with each other, but make internal arrangements. The geography Turkey belongs to directs us to this."
Egemen Bagis said he was confident while he was explaining the economic indicators to the Commission in Brussels and emphasized that with its immensely progressing economy, Turkey has the youngest population in Europe.
