BAGIS EVALUATES THE REFERENDUM AT THE EUROPEAN POLITICAL CENTRE

Visiting Brussels to make some contact with European Parliament officials, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech titled "Turkey's EU membership process after the 12 September Referendum" at the European Political Centre.

Bagis stated that on the 12th of September 2010, Turkish people made a choice between two past 12 Septembers and the majority of them chose democracy and the EU. Bagis added that many articles of the constitutional amendment package were related to the reforms the EU required for years.

Bagis said "The EU Commission and the member states welcomed the constitutional amendment; however, we have to admit that we realized this to raise the living standards of our people rather than to satisfy the EU."
