THE THIRD "SEPTEMBER, 12" IN OUR HISTORY

Stating that there were two important occasions on ‘September, 12 in the history, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that September 12, 2010 would be the third in the history.

In his speech he delivered in Mugla during his visit to Governor Fatih Sahin, Bagis talked about the referendum process and also said:

'First one is the September, 12 in 1963 when the deceased Ismet Inonu signed the Ankara Agreement. That date was the day when our institutional relations with the European Union started and when the decisiveness for the democratization process was emphasized. However, September 12, 1980 was the date when the democratisation and the EU process paused and suspended. On the third September, 12 which will take its place in the history, we will choose between the two previous dates corresponding September, 12. Therefore, after reading the package our citizens will decide and choose between the way to democratization and liberalization, or the way to repressive mindset going in for detentions and tortures. '

Stating that the citizens altogether would take an important step for the EU process on September, 12 Bagis said: "Our citizens will vote together to determine the elimination of the coup d'état mentality in the constitution and the amendment of our constitution as to be in line with the EU standards. I hope that this will be good and beneficial for our country. Also, this is a very important date for our EU process."

Delivering another speech at the board meeting organized by the European Union Foreign Affairs and Coordination Center of Mugla Governorship, Bagis noted that a new process had started for Turkey in 2002. Bagis also said: "In 2002, the ruling and the opposition parties cooperated fort the European Union in TGNA which will approve the EU later on. By means of the reform laws, steps taken, and the constitutional and legislative amendments, Turkey eliminated the trump cards of some of the European politicians trying to delay Turkey's EU membership .
