EUSG: "BAGIS DID NOT MEET HRISTOFYAS IN BRUSSELS"

Secretariat General for EU Affairs announced that no meeting took place in Brussels between Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis and the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Hristofyas as mentioned in Turkish and Greek media organs.

Regarding the issue, EUSG announced: "The press release which was claimed to be made by Hristofyas and which stated that Hristofyas conveyed via Bagis their message that they may approve the opening of some of Turkey's EU negotiation chapters in return for Maras, and other related news delivered through Greek and Greek Cypriot media organs are totally unreal and invented."

In the explanation, it was noted that Hristofyas' interlocutor was the President of TRNC Dervis Eroglu and that comprehensive negotiations aimed at finding out a solution were continuing between the two leaders through direct contacts.
