    WOMEN NGO'S ARE VITAL

Having participated the 2nd International Women Entrepreneurship and Leadership Summit which was held by Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KADIGER), Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that such a meeting would not only enhance the dialogue throughout the country but also would contribute greatly to informing world public opinion about the messages that Turkey wished to give over the course of its civilization process.

At his speech, noting that gender equality problem was a global one, Bagis stated that some steps should be taken in this respect all over the world.

Bagis said: "Even though Turkey assigned women with the right to elect and to be elected earlier than many countries in the West, we have now fallen behind them. The number of women members in 1935 in the First Assembly which was founded by Ataturk could not be reached until 2007. We went beyond this number for the first time in 2007. Now, the rate of women in the assembly is about 9.5 percent; however, this does not correspond to the rate of women who make up at least 50 percent of the society. Therefore, Turkey should also take important steps in this respect".
