MINISTER BAGIS RECEIVES PACE PRESIDENT CAVUSOGLU AND VICE PRESIDENT MIGNON

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis received Mevlut Cavusoglu, the President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and French senator Jean-Claude Mignon, the Vice-President of PACE.

At the meeting which took place at the Prime Ministry, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that he and Cavusoglu were close friends for a very long time and also worked together in politics and that he was proud of Cavusoglu's success. Stating that the election of Cavusoglu to the Presidency of PACE was also a success in terms of his own task, Bagis said Turkey's EU identity was confirmed with that election.

Mignon, in his part, said that he was honored to work with Cavusoglu in the Council as the Vice President of PACE, and highlighted that Cavusoğlu was the first Turkish national elected to such a long standing institution as the Council of Europe.

Reminding that Turkey was one of the founding members of the Council of Europe; Mignon said the election of Cavusoglu was an important indicator of the importance attached to Turkey. Mignon also added that he would keep assisting Cavusoglu during his term in office.
