EGEMEN BAGIS EXPLAINS THE EU PROCESS IN KAHRAMANMARAS PROVINCE

Following his visit to the Governor Mehmet Niyazi Tanilir within the framework of Kahramanmaras programme, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis participated in the signing ceremony of "Competing in the Services Grant Programme 2" organized by the governorship in Necip Fazil Kisakurek Cultural Centre.

In his speech at the Cultural Centre, stating that they had taken the necessary steps in the EU membership process, Bagis said: "On the one hand, we are attaining the quality of EU standards, but our goal is to provide our citizens with higher life standards and better life conditions. What is important is the process itself. It is much more important than the result."

Pointing out to the fact that The Turkish economy was taken as an example by the EU countries, Bagis said that while the banks in Europe were going bankrupt, not a single bank in Turkey suffered any losses, and added that the European economists examined the success story of Turkey.

Stating that today in Turkey there were citizens going through the fear of military coups, Bagis said: "In Turkey there are people who are worried about whether a change in the regime occurs and whether an intervention occurs regarding their life styles. In Turkey there are people who are afraid of monopolizing, just as the fact that there are people who are afraid of liberalization. In the EU process, these worries and fears will disappear. In this process we will not be under the influence of some European countries and their narrow-visioned political leaders who force us to give up in the course of this process."Expressing that the EU process was not an easy process, Bagis emphasized that they would manipulate this process with determination despite some politicians who are worried that in the event of Turkey's becoming an EU member country, it would get ahead of the leading countries in the EU.
Following the speeches, the signing ceremony of 25 projects which deserved to be supported within the scope of "Competing in the Services Project" organized by the Governorship of Kahramanmaras was held.
Continuing his observations in Kahramanmaras, Bagis also paid a visit to the Mayor Mustafa Poyraz.
