10TH YEAR OF EUSG ON THE EU PATH
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis hosted the introductory meeting of the book "10th Year of the Secretariat General for EU Affairs on the EU Path" prepared by the Secretariat General for EU Affairs which was founded in 2000 to coordinate Turkey's EU accession process.
The meeting was held in Ankara with the participation of the EU Permanent Contact Persons from all public institutions.
Bagis stated that the story of the EUGS was a ‘success story’, to which he was participating for 2.5 years and continued as follows, ‘Actually, the EUGS tells the story of hopelessness and heroism, pessimism and hope, absence and presence, abandonment and gathering.”
Minister Bagis indicated that the EUGS made a very important progress in the last decade and became almost a reform center, paving the way for Turkey to take more steps in terms of transparency.
Furthermore, Bagis stated, ‘When you go through the book, the steps taken during the last decade will be understood clearly. Some people were always talking about the EU process before EUGS’ establishment; however, those efforts were not much realistic. Today, the efforts made in the EUGS have a very important role in that we can freely talk about everything, argue and discuss about anything in Turkey.’
