NONE OF OUR CITIZENS SHOULD FEEL THE NECESSITY TO APPEAL TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief negotiator Egemen Bagis received Assyrian Orthodox deputy patriarch Yusuf Cetin.
Speaking at the start of the reception at the Secretariat General for EU Affairs, Bagis stated that his government regarded the problems of people from various groups, different religions, ethnic origins and political opinions as their own problems.
Bagis added: "As stated by our Prime minister in various occasions, every citizen of the Turkish Republic is equal. Their problems are our problems. When they are happy, we will also be happy. As long as we share, our troubles will lessen and happiness will increase."
Bagis said: "It is important that everybody realizes the changes in Turkey." He emphasized that the government kept its doors open for everybody. He also declared that none of the Turkish citizens needed to appeal to a foreign country to solve their problems any more. He added:
"Our state is ready to hear the problems of its citizens, also can see the problems its people are facing and can embrace their problems as its own problem."

Cetin recalled that the Assyrian society had always supported the state both at the time of the Ottoman Empire and after the foundation of the Turkish Republic. He added: "We always pray for the welfare, solidarity, unity, and peace of our state. We also pray for our statesmen. Assyrian society supports Turkey's accession to the EU with its invocations and efforts at home and outside."
Cetin said that Turkey was at a sensitive period but Assyrian society sometimes might have some needs. He added: "When a child needs something, he will ask it from his father.
