BAGIS MEETS THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSMAN DIAMANDOUROS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis met with the European Union Ombudsman Nikiforos Diamandouros for working breakfast in Istanbul Office of Secretariat General for EU Affairs.

Reminding that they had an extensive meeting in Brussels on Draft Law on an Ombudsman Institution which was prepared by the Ministry of Justice and sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bagis stated that they took Diamandouros' ideas about the relevant Draft Law which was on the agenda then and the experiences of the EU Member States in this respect.

Egemen Bagis emphasized that they also had the opportunity to evaluate the unfair treatment towards Turkey about the visa applications which the Turkish citizens had serious concern on.

Stating that Diamandouros had served as an ombudsman for a long time in Greece and he had been designated as the ombudsman of 27 countries later, Bagis said that Diamandouros followed Turkey closely and contributed to the process of establishing the ombudsman institution and preparing the law on an Ombudsman Institution.
