PROVINCIAL CONVENTON OF AK PARTY IN SIIRT

Speaking at the AK Party Congress which was held in Public Education Center in Siirt, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said they received 46.5 percent of the vote in the local elections in Siirt which is not a figure to be underestimated and that they never got offended with Siirt for not wining the mayoral elections.

Stating that they tried to equally distribute state resources among the seven geographical regions without making any differentiation, Bagis said "Cevdet Yılmaz, a brother of ours from Bingol, is our minister responsible for Southeastern Anatolian Project (GAP), Eastern Anatolian Project (DAP), Konya Plain Irrigation Project (KOP) and Projects for Supporting Infrastructure of Villages (Koydes). 500 million Euros fund (approximately 1 billion TL) was allocated to the region this year. 12 billion TL fund would be transferred to the district within 4 years."

Bagis said they evaluated the elections, received the message of the public in both the regions they lost or won the elections and that they wouldn't burden the election results on others.

Stating that Turkey has indicated a rapid change recently, Bagis continued as follows:

"Turkey is a country progressing to honor the EU project which is the most important peace project of the human history. It has assumed the position of the secretariat general in the Organization of the Islamic Conference in the same year the negotiations with EU started. Today Turkey is the most western country in the orient and the most oriental country in the west. Different cultures come together in Turkey. It has brought Afghanistan and Pakistan together at the same table, has started the peace negotiations between Israel and Syria and has played a leading role in the negotiations between Russia and Georgia."

"TRT 6 started broadcasting. People of the region can now get news, watch entertainment programmes in their own language. Is this bad? Have they become enemies to the state? Considering that he is really for democratization, I call Mr. Baykal to amend this constitution to form a text which would be a source of inspiration not only for Turkey but also for all Eurasia. The explanations regarding the administration of cooperatives takes 1, 5 pages in the present Constitution; however, it does not contain a provision regarding the number of voters required to select the President in the Turkish Great National Assembly. Is this constitution having such loopholes suitable to a great nation who has maintained a state tradition for more than a thousand years? Let us prepare together a constitution suitable to us. Let us carry out these reforms together.
