EGEMEN BAGIS DISTRIBUTED ASHURA TO PUBLIC

“Ashura is the symbol of our unity” said Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attending the activity of distributing Ashura pudding organized in Beykoz on the occasion of the month of Muharram.

Distributing ashura to people together with Beykoz Mayor Yücel Çelikbilek and District Governor Süleyman Erdoğan, Minister Bagis expressed his pleasure to attend the event and said “It is a great happiness for us to share the ashura with our citizens, as a part of our own traditions, in these sacred days of Muharram.”

Describing the “Ashura Day” as the cultural wealth of Anatolia, Minister Bagis said “We are one and together. My God, never make this country to suffer from other rigors and problems again. God willing, our country moves forwards day by day, with confident steps, towards brighter tomorrows” and also added:

“We, as the government, have been moving with great sensitivity for 11 years, to get this right consistency, since the duty of a state is not to identify, but to acknowledge the differences, forming a part of the society. Our Republic, as a democratic, secular and social state according to the definition in the constitution, should stand at an equal distance to all religious groups, sects and beliefs and should guarantee the freedom of religion and conscience of all. What we have done is to undertake this constitutional and humanistic responsibility which has not addressed in Turkey for years.”

Stating that provocations and fanatic approaches could never and would never hinder the solidarity, Minister Bagis said “No one in this country is, or can be, privileged and special. We stand on equal footing before the state’s services, we are all first-class citizens. We all are the owner of this land which we are living on.”
