AK PARTY IS THE ARCHITECT OF TURKEY’S EU ACCESSION PROCESS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated that freeedom, democracy and high levels of prosperity can not be monopolized by any country. Indicating that they were making efforts in order to furnish Turkish citizens with the same rights that the people in the EU countries enjoy, Bagis said that Turkey’s efforts to realize the reforms were expressed in the Progress Report. He said that those expressions indicated the government’s commitment to the reforms.

Speaking at meeting of AK Party’s Provincial Foreign Affairs Directors held in AK Party’s Headquarters, Bagis said that Turkey’s EU accession process was too valuable and strategic to be sacrificed to any obstacle, insufficiency or excuse and he added that for this reason, they were giving the utmost importance to foreign relations, which is one of the most important dimensions of the accession process.

Stating that Turkey’s EU accession process was the best way for Turkey to get rid of its old habits and attain a prestigious place in the new world, Bagis noted that the EU meant dialogue, understanding, freedom, the restoration of rights and more democracy.

Pointing out that the AK Party government put forward the mentality “No matter what happens Turkey will succeed”, Bagis said that if there was anyone who should be defined as the architect of Turkey’s EU accession process, it was the AK Party.
