AK PARTY PROGRESSED A LOT IN 7 YEARS
In the press meeting held in the provincial organization of Adana, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated that AK Party carried out a silent revolution in Turkey in 7 years.
Bagis said that in the AK party period, one thirds of the schools and one fourth of the hospitals were built, hundred thousands of apartments and thousand kilometres of double highways were constructed. He added: "We have accomplished many things in seven years; we also want Adana benefit from the municipality mentality of AK Party. Adana needs dynamism and initiatives".
After the press meeting, Bagis visited the election office of mayoral candidate for Adana, Mehmet Ali Bilici, in Turhan Cemal Beriker Boulevard. In his speech there, Bagis stated: "We are in power for seven years and we will continue to progress in every field."
Bagis inaugurated the election Office of Nevzat Ardic, AK Party mayoral candidate for Cukurova and there he emhasized that AK Party government achieved a lot in 7 years. Bagis also added that the number of schools, hospitals, double highways and apartments built in their governing period is more than the ones built in the whole history of the Turkish Republic.
Bagis recalled that the services made are carried out by the Turkish people. He said: "You did not only elected a leader as a prime minister of Turkish Republic, to whom some people once said that he could not even be a mukhtar. You also rendered him the world's voice of coincidence."
Bagis stated that performance of the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his position as a Mayor for Istanbul also played role in the success of AK Party. He added that beside the services carried out, Erdogan awarded scholarships to hundred thousands of students during his mayoralty period.
Bagis declared that the municipalities do not award scholarships to students any more. He recalled that CHP appealed to Constitutional Court and terminated the opportunity to award scholarships by the municipalities.
Bagis said that many things have changed in Turkey and he added: "We are not a country any more whose leaders are hanged as a result of coups; or where the books are collected. Today, Turkey is a democratic, secular, social state governed by rule of law. Nowadays, Turkey proceeds towards EU in a determined manner."
Bagis stated that some people claim that EU process has slowed down. He added:
"EU process is under my responsibility. This process started with the application of deceased Adnan Menderes in1959 to European Economic Community. Between 1959 and 2004 this process was interrupted by coups, by statements defining us as only the market of common market or pointing the way to EU through Diyarbakir. Now they say that the process has slowed down. Then, what about the ones detaining us for 45 years? In 2004, AK Party started the negotiation process. AK Party achieved this only in two years, but the others could not do in 45 years. Today, we are negotiating more than 10 chapters. We are progressing in a determined way.
Even a month ago, our Prime Minister was in Brussels. Our colleagues there stated clearly that they are supporting the membership of Turkey. Why does our nation want to have an accession to EU? To live humanely. We want to be a member of the European Union, not to please the Europeans but to enable our children be educated in better schools, to have more modern hospitals, to have wider and more secure roads, to increase our earnings, and to live democracy in better standards."
Bagis also visited the election offices of metropolitan municipality mayor and MHP candidate mayor Aytac Durak and CHP candidate mayor Umit Ozgumus in Gazipasa Boulevard and he wished success to them in the elections.
