MINISTER BAGIS REFORM IS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS

Describing military coups as "invasion of a country by its own army", Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that they put forward the EU Acquis in order to abolish the article which coups are legally based on, and by abolishing this article, democracy in Turkey became stronger.

Minister Bagis participated in the “sahur”, night-time meal, hosted by İbrahim Caglar, President of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, in Istanbul and he made evaluations about the current agenda.

Expressing that the articles on which the Constitution Conciliation Committee agreed could be amended over a night if the parties stood by their words, Minister Bagis said “Amending the articles will not wipe out Turkey's shame of having a coup constitution. Let us amend the Constitution completely. Instead of amending the articles, let us amend the Constitution. If necessary let us hold a referendum. From now on, let us have discussions on the grounds of a civil constitution. Reform is a continuous process.”
