BAGIS MEETS WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF ORGANIZATIONS GRANTING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE OF EUROPE

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis met with the representatives of organizations granting scholarships for College of Europe Scholarship Program. 

Delivering a speech at Feriye Restaurant in Istanbul, Bagis said, “For three years, we have been enabling 20 Turkish young people on average in a year to be provided education at the College of Europe thanks to the scholarships granted by Turkish organizations. At the end of the one-year education, our young people, as EU experts, add value to our country. Stating that the experts educated in the College of Europe are employed in various public institutions including the Ministry for EU Affairs, as well as in a number of private institutions, non-governmental organizations and universities, Bagis followed his words as follows;

“In order to be eligible for the College of Europe, students must be proficient in English and French. They also must prove their performance in their fields of study. I have personally observed that after studying day and night, they become EU experts in their fields of study at the end of the one-year boarding education. The importance of the performance of this school is also proven by the fact that many of the high-level officials in the Commission and government officials in the EU member states, whom we have been in contact with, are the graduates of the College of Europe.

The “College of Europe Scholarship Program” carried out within the coordination of the Ministry for EU Affairs was initiated in the 2010-2011 academic year through the valuable contributions of the private sector representatives and non-governmental organizations. The aim of the program is to train highly qualified EU experts and future Turkish Eurocrats in the process of Turkey’s full membership to the European Union.
