IT IS NOT BROTHERHOOOD BUT TREACHERY THAT DIVIDES A COUNTRY

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech at the conference on “the Settlement Process and the EU” in Manisa. Bagis said: It is not brotherhood but treachery that divides countries. There is no reason for not living together under a respectable democratic system. We all own this process. We will live altogether on this land.”

Bagis indicated that there were some people trying to distort the meaning of the settlement process but it was by no means a bargaining process. He added that it was not a new process either. Bagis continued as follows: “The codes of the settlement process are clearly defined in the party doctrine of the AK Party. We will change things in this country. Everybody in this country will be equal. Seven lights of the lamp in the AK Party logo represent the seven geographical regions of the country. The name of our party is justice and development which Turkey needs most. People in Turkey had got really sick of injustice. They desired development and that was the founding philosophy of the AK Party.”

Pointing out the damages caused by terrorism in Turkey, Bagis stated that 350 billion dollars had been spent for the fight against terrorism until today. Bagis said: “Imagine the new position of Turkey after the settlement process when all the sources are spent only for the welfare of the society. Economic development can never be achieved in a country where freedoms are restricted and people are suppressed. If democracy in a country is limping then its economy would have paralysis. It is not a coincidence that all wealthy and developed countries have a strong economy. Only some of them have natural resources and that makes them richer.”
