ISTANBUL IS TO RECEIVE TOWN TWINNING PROGRAMME
The districts of Istanbul to receive support under the Town Twinning Programme within the scope of Istanbul Preparing for the EU Project, which is conducted under the coordination of Istanbul Governorate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and supported by the Ministry for EU Affairs, have been announced.
34 applications have been received to the Call for Application which was opened to 39 districts and district municipalities. Applications from 10 districts received support after administrative and technical evaluation made by the Ministry for EU Affairs, Istanbul Governorate, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Union for Municipalities of Turkey. The awarded districts of Istanbul are; Bagcilar, Beylikduzu, Beyoglu, Gaziosmanpasa, Gungoren, Maltepe, Sariyer, Sultanbeyli, Sile and Umraniye.
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said “We need more than ever to express Istanbul’s messages as a city shaping and absorbing the European culture in the world and especially in Europe. Through this programme, we envisage that new brotherhood bridges will be established between the Turkish people and the European people. I sincerely believe that Istanbul, as a city linking the Asian and the Europe, will also be a city linking Turkey to Europe. I wish the projects that would be conducted within the scope of Town Twinning Programme will accelerate this unification and would like to congratulate the districts being awarded.”
