LETS’ HEAL THE WOUNDS AND CONTINUE REFORMS

Replying the questions of Cansu Camlibel, the reporter from Hurriyet Newspaper, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, who is one of the ministers giving the biggest support to the 4th Judicial Reform Package, said “Let’s bind up wounds and take the steps” in terms of the process.

Bagis, replying questions on various issues from Arab Spring to terrorism, from EU membership to the importance of Istanbul, indicated the followings related to the 4th Judicial Reform Package.

“Now, the way the process started towards the disarmament of PKK in Turkey proceeds; will play a very significant role in constituting the content of this package. As it is in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, taking steps for democratization and becoming transparent will be easier if Turkey gets rid of terrorism.

We can surely say that they are all linked to each other in terms of affecting the atmosphere positively in our country. If PKK lays down its arms in this process, then it will be encouraging for taking steps related to some sorts of cultural rights. When I mentioned Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, I actually meant this; I am also saying this to the BDP (The Peace and Democracy Party) politicians whom I met; when you wake up in the morning, the first thing you do is to wash your face, to take a shower and to brush your teeth. But, when you wake up in the morning, if you notice that you have a bleeding wound, you will not spend time with brushing your teeth and you will try to stop the bleeding. Today terrorism is the bleeding wound of Turkey, when Turkey stops this bleeding and heals the wound, then it will be able to take more critical steps, steps towards improving its image and providing its people to express themselves more comfortably.”
