Attending the reception organized on the occasion of EU’s receiving the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis said: “The most comprehensive peace prize to be received by the EU will be the day of Turkey’s accession.”
Delivering a speech to the journalists at the reception organized in Bilkent Concert Hall, in Ankara, Bagis declared the enthusiasm and pleasure of Turkey as a candidate country carrying out accession negotiations, for the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU and said: “The most comprehensive peace prize to be received by the EU will be the day of Turkey’s accession. It should be accepted that the day on which Turkey becomes a member of the EU is celebrated will mean the start off with a clean slate for the humanity and for a peaceful world full of love.”
Egemen Bagis stated that it was very meaningful that the prize of nearly 1 million Euros would be used for immigrant children and he declared his hope that the children in the Syrian camps in Turkey would not be forgotten.
Bagis pointed that 2012 Nobel Peace Prize shouldn't be regarded as a point of destination for the EU but a starting point. Bagis also said:
''European Union should start off with a clean slate to find a solution to its current crises, and to stop the contradictions in itself, and this depends on the membership of Turkey. Turkey has a share in this prize given to the EU and the EU should get the necessary message from this.”
