TURKEY WILL NOT LEAVE THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE ALONE
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis indicated that Israel’s Gaza attack was a move related to its domestic policy and that the Israeli people would react to this attack.
Bagis, after his speech titled as "Euro's Expansion - Atlanticism" in Atlantic Council's Energy and Economic Summit held in Istanbul, answered press members' questions.
Upon a question about Israel's attack on Gaza, Bagis drew attention to the world's current conjuncture and said, "Elections were held in the USA. Obama will announce again his cabinet on January 20th. He is now showing effort to constitute a cabinet. There are elections now in Iran. There will be elections in January in Israel. There is a serious argumental environment in Iraq. With all of these disputes and uncertainties, Israel's attack on Gaza is completely a move towards Israel's internal affairs and Israeli people will act against this."
Bagis stated that Israeli people should have understood that their own security could only be achieved by the establishment of the state of Palestine and said:
"Unless a state of Palestine is established, peace will not exist in Israel, or Middle East, or in the world. Everyone must understand that. And the world must put an end to its insensitive manner on this issue. We mention this on every chance we have. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a very loud and clear statement on this issue yesterday. This is the consensus of both our government and our people. Until today, Turkey has never left Palestine alone, and never will. "
Mentioning the relations between Turkey and the EU and the political developments in the Atlantic Council's Energy and Economic Forum, Bagis then met Georgia's State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili, who was in Istanbul to attend the Summit.
