BAGIS RECEIVES PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Association of Translation Enterprises held an organisation named as “Professionalization in Translation: Changing Profiles in 21st Century”. In the event organised within the scope of International Translation Day, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has been awarded with “Professional Achievement Award”.

In his speech, Bagis stated as follows:

“During the days I lived in USA and in the last decade after I entered politics, within the framework of my political works, I have personally witnessed how translation is significant in fact in the international relations. I am deeply affected by being awarded with such a meaningful reward from our own sector in the International Translation Day which has been celebrated since 1953. The Spanish poet Cervantes resembled the translation to weave a rug. I, within 20 years in the sector, resembled the translation to solve a puzzle. Translation forces the human mind and by doing this, it also enriches his culture and knowledge and ensures that he thinks faster and looks through a broader perspectiveto the issues. Sometimes, as regards of the political issues I face with, I benefit from the advantages of having been in the sector for a long time of period. Because I can look from different kind of views.”

Bagis stating that they would work with the translators in terms of the Progress Report which will be published in the beginning of October said “Some circles who try to give some sort of images to our country have already started to manipulate the report, to make this report as an issue of provocation process. But, one way or another, this report will be a significant document for Turkey despite of the parts which we will not fond of. The report would have been translated at the same night following its publication. It will provide a different perspective for those who want to read the report from our web site in order to understand the process in Turkey.” Bagis indicated that they would prepare their own Progress Report at the end of the year and the translators would also contribute to this report.
