AK PARTY ISSUED A STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE TERRORIST ATTACK

AK Party issued a statement on July 9th, 2008 yesterday condemning the terrorist attack against the US Istanbul Consulate.

The statement says:

"We condemn the terrorist attack launched against the US Consulate General in Sariyer district of Istanbul where three policemen were martyred. Our pain is deep. We extend our condolences to the Turkish nation. Turkey will continue fighting against terrorism till the end. We have been passing thru a very delicate period for our country. We invite all sectors of our society to act with commonsense and without losing their calmness. We pray for God's mercy for our martyrs and wish patience for their close ones. We wish speedy recovery for the wounded."

Bagis also reminded that PM Erdogan had made a proposal following the 9/11 attacks for establishment of an "international platform to combat against terrorism." Bagis said that the call of the PM is still valid.
