WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM MEETS IN ISTANBUL

Held in Turkey for the first time, the World Economic Forum started in Istanbul. Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has participated in the interactive session “The Future of European Integration”.

In his speech at the World Economic Forum, Egemen Bagis indicated that Turkey and Europe shared common values which were also important for the future generations.

Indicating that the per capita welfare in Turkey was higher than in Europe and other parts of the world, Bagis said “When talking about per capita welfare, I don’t only mean income. The situation in Turkey is better in terms of vairous factors such as food security, hygiene standards and hope for the future”. Expressing that Turkey’s food standards have also raised, Bagis said “We have established rules about toys. All the baby food produced in Turkey is organic, thanks to the EU legislation”.

Emphasizing that they didn’t have difficulty in harmonizing with the EU legislation, Bagis said:

“Some member states had difficulty in implementing their own prescriptions. The dietician himself may be overweighed, have embolism or mood lability. This doesn’t mean that his prescription is wrong. The prescription is right. We have to focus on the process, on the prescription, not on the dietician or the labile mood of him.

The two-day World Economic Forum, which was initially established in Geneva, Switzerland in 1971 will include for the first time in its 42 year-history, Summits on the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia. 1100 participants from 70 different countries have registered for the Istanbul meeting of the three-day Forum.
