15th EURASIAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT

15th Eurasian Economic Summit was held in Istanbul, Lutfi Kirdar Convention Centre with the participation of the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis and the Speaker of TGNA, Cemil Cicek. 

In the opening ceremony Egemen Bagis delivered a speech and said that EU’s being a peace Project should not be forgotten. He also stated:

“With Turkey’s accession, this continental peace project will become global. Turkey which is currently a source of inspiration for the countries in the region in their processes for democratisation, becoming transparent and dynamic will contribute a lot to EU in becoming a global peace Project rather than being a continental one.”

Bagis also added that there was no other alternative for Turkey except for full membership.

Bagis stated that there were people trying to get Turkey to throw in the towel in Europe, and he said: “There are people making unjust and impertinent statements, with the aim of taking advantage in the upcoming elections. However, we are decisive against them, and have friends like you. If we become fully aware of our own power, I believe that we can give the essential messages to them.''
