    TURKEY CANNOT REMAIN SILENT

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech at the 4th Adalar District Congress of AK Party and mentioned the recent events in Syria.

In his speech at the Büyükada Anadolu Club, Bagis said:

“It is sad to see that people in Syria are killed by their own state. Turkey cannot of course remain silent to these recent events and it will of course exert its authority over the international organizations. Directed by our Prime Minister, our Foreign Minister is continuing to hold talks in Munich.  As the AK Party, we condemn the massacre that killed hundreds of civilians on Mawlid al-Nabi. Fortunately, the AK Party has shown people that those with such mentalities could never become the power in Turkey.”

Indicating that the AK Part was a social center and a bridge between the past and the future, Bagis said:

“Unfortunately this country has experienced many tragic events in the past. Those living in Adalar are familiar with such events. Some people have experienced the 6-7 September events, some have been humiliated for being Alevi, some weren’t allowed to speak their mother tongue, some were excluded from the right to education and some were subject to the practice of using a lower coefficient to calculate the final score of the university admission, which is a violation of human rights.  There are no quarters of this country that hasn’t faced some difficulties. Not only those belonging to different belief groups, but the majority of our people have gone through the oppression of the State. But as the AK Party, we can proudly say that those days are over. Now everyone knows that they cannot act superior to anybody in this country thanks to our democracy. Every single person living in Turkey is using his/her constitutional citizenship rights. We, as the Party embedding those tragic days in history, are leaving a great heritage to our grandchildren.”
