EGEMEN BAGIS SPEAKS AT DLD CONFERENCE IN MUNICH

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech titled “Turkey in the 21st century” at “Europe’s Digital Life Design (DLD) Conference” in Munich, Germany.

In his speech, Bagis touched upon the developments in Turkey and said, “My country will come to rescue Europe”.

Stating that the number of internet users has grown considerably in recent years and the younger generation has been showing keen interest towards new technologies, Bagis indicated that Turkey has grown by almost 8 percent in the period when the European countries has grown only by 1.5 percent.

He also said, “Turkey and Germany are the only two countries that recorded economic growth”, adding that Turkey would be the strongest economy if Germany continued to pay the debts of other European countries.

Replying to a question on the law concerning Armenian allegations which was adopted by the French Senate, Bagis said that the decision of the senate was affected by the presidential elections to be held in May and highlighted that this decision cannot be associated with the Armenian, Turkish or French people.

After a participant expressed that it was difficult to understand Turkey’s attitude towards Israel, Bagis said, “You may ignore the problem but it cannot be solved in this way. 9 innocent Turkish civilians were killed by the Israeli soldiers in international waters. We have been waiting for an apology from Israel for two years. This is what needs to be done. Nevertheless, Turkey can have a role in establishing peace between Israel and the Arab countries.”
