TURKISH LOCAL MEDIA ON THE EU PATH IZMIR
The eighth regional informative seminar of the project titled “Turkish Local Media on the EU Path”, which is organized by the Ministry for EU Affairs and backed up by the British Embassy, was held in Izmir with the participation of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis.
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the seminar which will be continued up to 10 December 2011, Bagis indicated that by this project, the local media representatives working throughout Turkey aimed to give true information to their followers about Turkey’s EU bid and he said that the project proved itself with its implementations up to date and produced effective results.
By criticizing the EU member states that are against Turkey’s accession to the European Union, Minister Bagis said “If there is a fire in Europe today, we are volunteer fire brigades to put out the fire. People, who intervene between the ones setting the fire and putting up the fire, should make up their minds. Turkey’s contribution is the one of which the Europe is strongly in need. Turkey is aware of its potential.”
