SPECIAL PROVISIONAL ADMINISTRATIONS PREPARING FOR THE EU

The Cooperation Protocol on the Project titled “Special Provisional Administrations Preparing for the EU” was signed by Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Idris Naim Sahin, Minister of the Interior and Alaaddin Yuksel, Chairman of the Union of Provincial Services and the Governor of Ankara.    

Following the 33rd General Meeting of the Union of Provincial Services which was organized in Ankara Vilayetler Evi, lunch was given to the members of the Union. Minister Sahin and Minister Bagis participated in the lunch and the signing ceremony of the protocol was held.

In his speech at the ceremony, Egemen Bagis stated that considering Turkey’s EU accession process only as a part of the foreign policy would be a faulty approach. He said: “The EU accession process is not only related with the foreign policy but also it is a matter of domestic policy”.

The Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis reminded that all the institutions, non-governmental organizations, the media, the universities and 74 million citizens of Turkey were not elements of the EU accession process but actors of this process. Bagis said that they had been spreading the excitement and motivation for the EU throughout Anatolia since 2009 when he took office.

In his speech, the Minister of the Interior Idris Naim Sahin mentioned that local administrations attached great importance to the preparation process for the EU membership and this project aimed to strengthen the administrative capacity of the special provincial administrations and the EU service units of the Governorates on the issues regarding the European Union.

Following the speeches, the cooperation protocol was signed by Egemen Bagis, the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Idris Naim Sahin, the Minister of the Interior and Alaaddin Yuksel, the Governor of Ankara.
