BAGIS REFERS TO ECONOMIC CRISIS IN EURO REGION
In the third Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum which was held in Istanbul, in which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech in the session “Economic fluctuation and global governance in the era of change” and he referred to the economic crisis in the euro region.
In his speech pointing out to the fact that no crisis would be left without being resolved, Bagis indicated that Turkey also confronted difficult days, but, he added, Turkey had the fastest growing economy.
Stating that he had a new slogan to be used in the meetings in various capitals of Europe, Bagis said: “Hold firm Europe, Turkey is going to help you with your problems.”
Reminding Turkey’s foreign trade with the EU, Bagis stated that Turkey could be influenced by the economic decline in the region, but, he added, Europe was still a region with a higher prosperity level.
Underlying the fact that not all the countries in the euro region were undergoing a difficult period, Bagis said: “What leads these countries to a difficult position is not the EU criteria. Their incompliance with what should be complied with creates the problem. Many of them ignore this fact.”
Stating that the ratio of those, who believe that the EU’s reforms contribute to the development of Turkey in many aspects, was high, Bagis said: “What motivates me is this fact. What makes me think positive is again this fact. When you ask: ‘Has EU been fair to Turkey?’ %91 will say ‘no’. Not a single country confronted difficulties as much as Turkey did.”
