BAGIS REACTS TO DOUBLE STANDARDS APPLIED TO TURKEY
Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis who has participated in the 8th International Yalta European Strategy (YES) Summit in Ukraine, delivered a speech in the meeting entitled “Ukraine and Turkey: China in Europe? Or the Shining Stars of the Black Sea Region?”
In his speech, Bagis mainly criticised the EU for applying a double standard to Turkey.
Evaluating the current position of Turkey, Bagis said: “In the past, the Europeans were talking about the insufficiency of our universities and the poor state of the Turkish economy. But today, Turkey has the fastest growing economy in Europe.”

The audience applauded Bagis enthusiastically.
Besides Minister Bagis, Stefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement; Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Alexander Kwasniewski, the former President of Poland and Carl Bildt, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden also attended the conference where Europe’s future was discussed.
After his meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Konstantin Grishchenko within the framework of 8th International Yalta European Strategy Summit (YES), Bagis held another meeting with Stefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement. Bagis stated that they have discussed Turkey’s accession process and the visa issues.
