BAGIS EXPLAINS HIS “ONE MINUTE” REACTION
In the meeting titled “Ukraine and the World: Common Challenges, Common Future” which was held in Yalta Province, Ukraine, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis walked out the conference hall when Israeli President Shimon Peres was about to take the stage for his speech. Bagis explained his reaction as follows:
“I reacted in the most civilized way to a person who does not even consider apologizing”. Bagis said: “Nobody can expect me to listen to the representative of a country which has killed nine of our citizens and then behave as if everything is normal”.
Stating that unless the conditions which our Prime Minister had explained earlier were satisfied, the normalization process could not be achieved, Bagis said:
“The Israel Government, especially its President Shimon Peres should fulfill three actions in this regard: They should apologize to Turkey. They should pay compensation to the families who lost their beloved ones and the illegal and irrational blockage imposed on Gaza should be terminated”.
