TURKEY IS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR THE ARAB SPRING

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis participated in the live program of CNN Turk and answered the questions related to the agenda. Bagis touched upon the issues such as PKK and fight against terrorism, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the countries that go through the Arab Spring.

Bagis was asked to comment on the welcoming ceremonies of Prime Minister Erdogan in his visit to the countries that go through the Arabian Spring. Bagıs said that when he saw those images he remembered the impressions he got in the Istanbul Atatürk Airport the night they turned back from Davos and he added that the greatest power of Prime Minister Erdogan was the democracy of Turkey.

Indicating that the democracy was demanded by the countries going through Arab spring, Bagis said; by straightening democracy, Erdogan became a source of inspiration for the people who lived in these countries.

Answering the questions concerning the fight against terrorism, Bagis, pointed out that the determination was kept on and said: “We have a state understanding which behaves towards terrorists in the way they deserved but embraces its citizens with benignity.”.Upon a question concerning the police special operations teams to take charge in the fight against terrorism, Bagis answered: “After just 20 days of recruit training, our young (18-20 years old) soldiers’ taking charge in a geography they have never known is not the same thing with the well trained special operations team members’ taking charge in the region with their best equipments.”

Bagis indicated that the cooperation with some EU countries in the fight against terrorism had increased; but some countries did not still show the support they expected. Bagis said Germany, Denmark, Netherland, France and Sweden should have done their best regarding this issue. Bagis pointed out that PKK was also killing the young people of Europe by poisoning them with drugs and he told about this to the people concerning that issue on all occasions.
