THEY STILL TRY TO TERRORIZE PEOPLE WITH FEAR

At the speech that he made at the Advisory Council of Fatih County of Justice and Development Party (AK Party), Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis issued some assessments about the recent developments both in Turkey and in the world.

Pointing out that there are some people who have tried to provoke people in Turkey and rule out AK Party unjustly, Bagis continued as follows:

"They wanted to terrorize our people. They said 'They will mess about your life style'. They said 'They will intervene in your appearance'. They have still tried to terrorize people with fear. There are some ill mentalities that try to show AK Party as if it would intervene in the life styles of the people but we do not deserve this kind of attitude.

Therefore, our Prime Minister told the same thing that he has repeated maybe thousand times. We guarantee that all the people can live as they wish. They said 'Reaction will come here'. Instead U2 came and gave a concert in a country that they did not come for years by the pretext of human rights abuses."

Never before has a political party in Turkish history more protected the principles of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey and his vision to reach the level of contemporary civilization, than the AK Party. However, they want to terrorize and scare the society because it does not serve their purposes. They believe to deceive the society with seditions but they are mistaken.”

At his speech, Bagis shared his impressions concerning his trip to Hungary and stated that Hungary, by restarting a tradition forgotten for 4.5 years, took a very important step in terms of candidate countries to be invited to EU summits, and Turkey, after a period of 4.5 years, attended an EU ministerial meeting with the other candidate countries.

Pointing out that Turkey is not ‘the sick man of Europe’ anymore, Bagis continued as follows:

Turkey is one of the dynamic actors of the Europe. For example, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy was in Turkey yesterday. Prime Minister of Lebanon was in Turkey today and met with our Prime Minister on overcoming the crisis in his country. We arbitrate between Pakistan and Afghanistan and also between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. Turkey is both the co-president of the Alliance of Civilizations and the General Secretary of the İslamic Conference Organization and also doing a really amazing performance in the United Nations Security Council. On the other hand, it has been the Europe’s fastest growing economy.  Turkey achieved a growth rate of 11% in the first half of the year 2010 and around 8-8.5% in the year average. Today, while banks are failing one by one in many European countries due to the economic crisis and the EU member states are substantially providing financial support from their treasury to rescue their banks, there is no bank in Turkey who has made loss since 2002, on the contrary, all of them have made a profit.

Stating that there was no other country than Turkey whose per capita income increased three fold just in 8 years, Bagis said “If you look the economic and political indicators and international relations, there are many success stories which every one of us, as an AK Party member, can tell proudly. This is your joint achievement.”
