BAGIS EVALUATES 2010 PROGRESS REPORT
Evaluating the EU's Turkey 2010 Progress Report and Enlargement Strategy Paper, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that the report had been the most positive and encouraging one of the 13 reports issued so far.
In his statement at the press conference organized in Secretariat General for EU Affairs, Bagis said:
"When evaluated generally, the report has been found to reflect the current situation of Turkey in a balanced and positive manner. Our determination in the EU membership process has been emphasized in the report with reference to the work performed. It is significant that as the Chief Negotiator, our efforts to strengthen the cooperation among the institutions, attempts to include the civil society in this process and the negotiations with different religious groups have been emphasized in the report. Moreover, the report has also underlined that the deputy governors in 81 provinces responsible for the EU issues are on duty and continue their work actively and the Reform Monitoring Group Meeting was conducted for the first time under the leadership of our Prime Minister".
Bagis remarked that this report had one message and it meant that everybody who supported the EU membership should take the responsibility and meet the needs within the scope of the alignment criteria.
