POLISH EXPERIENCE TO EU MEMBERSHIP BY SOLIDARNOSC
The panel themed "Democratization, Rights, Liberties and the EU: Polish Experience to EU Membership by Solidarnosc" organized with the cooperation of the Secretariat General for EU Affairs and Hak-Is was held in Ankara within the framework of Hak-IS anniversary celebrations.
Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis, Minister of Labour and Social Security Omer Celik and Former President of Poland and member of the EU think tank Lech Walesa also attended the panel.
Bagis, in his speech at the panel said he wished that Hak-Is which defends the rights of labourers being on the side of democracy and EU standards would serve this country for long years.
Expressing his gratitude to the Former President of Poland and member of the EU think tank Lech Walesa who came to Ankara in order to attend the panel, Bagis said that he met Walesa in Gdansk-Poland the previous year and they had a nice talk there.
Bagis said: "I believed that the people of my country should hear what I heard there. I learned from him there that the trade unions should not be viruses killing the institutions that they are functioning in but strengthening and vitalizing mechanisms like bacteria. He said that the unions had an important role in the development and democratisation of the society and adoption of the EU norms."
Indicating that Walesa was the leader of a social movement and one of the defenders of Turkey's EU accession process, Bagis expressed his gratitude to Walesa.
