BAGIS AND CAVUSOGLU MEETS TURKISH SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES IN U.S.A

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, who went to New York to represent Turkey in the United Nations General Assembly where the flood disaster in Pakistan was discussed, attended the iftar held in Brooklyn together with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu and met with Turkish society representatives.

In his speech, Bagis remarked that he wanted to inform the Turkish society regarding the referendum of October 22.

Minister Bagis said: "I care a lot that you consider the value of the right that our constitution gives you. The constitutional amendment package will clear the way for Turkey. There are many important articles in the package. Everyone has to know about the content of the package and vote with self conscience."

Bagis said that the constitutional amendment package provided constitutional security to positive discrimination and let women, children, veterans, handicapped and martyrs' relatives benefit from specific privileges.

Stating that with this package the right of workers and civil servants to make collective bargaining will be brought to agenda, establishment of more than one trade union in the work places will be ensured and an autonomous and free Ombudsman institution will be established. Bagis also remarked that members of the Turkish Armed Forces could be judged in civil courts and no civil person would be judged in military courts.

Indicating that all articles in the package will make Turkey more free, modern, transparent and respectable country, Bagis said as a result of these Turkey will continue to get richer.
