TURKEY'S EU MEMBERSHIP WILL PREVENT NEW POLARIZATIONS IN THE WORLD

In the session called "Rethinking of Europe's Enlargement and Close Sphere" in Brussels' meetings of World Economic Forum, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis declared that to prevent new polarizations in the world, Turkey should become a member of the EU.

Minister for EU Affairs Bagis wanted EU, whose most of the members were in economic crises due to the global economic depression and whose unemployment rates increased, not to consider enlargement as a "scapegoat".Expressing that Turkey would not be a burden for EU but rather would take the burden; Bagis stated that EU could transfer peace and stability to the problematic regions of the world only through the membership of Turkey. Bagis said that Turkey's EU membership "would be antithesis of clash of civilizations and would prevent the new polarizations in the world."

Spotlighting the close pursuance of one and half billion Islamic world of Turkey's EU membership process, Bagis said "There are millions of Muslims living in Europe and they are EU citizens. Turkey's membership will not bring out something new but it will ease the integration and promote mutual understanding."

Egemen Bagis asserted that EU needed leaders who had vision and were brave to tell their people the advantages of Turkey's membership to Europe.

Stating that with the EU process reforms that were unimaginable till a couple of years were realized in Turkey, Bagis emphasized the constitutional reforms that were especially demanded by European Parliament and EU Commission. Bagis said "Our current constitution, which was the product of military coup, dragged us to the back like a magnet. Constitutional amendment was necessary not for ruling the people but for serving them by centralizing the individual."
