PROCESS ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PACKAGE IS A SERIOUS SINCERITY PROCESS

Participating in the closing event of the project "Civil Society Dialogue: Bringing together workers from Turkey and European Union countries through a shared culture of work. Workers are all together", Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis evaluated the Constitutional Amendment Package.

Speaking at Ankara Dedeman Hotel at the closing event of the project organized with the collaboration of European Trade Unions Confederation and with the association of Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions, Hak-iş and Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey, Bagis stated that Turkey had launched one more historical process and he said: "An important Constitutional amendment package is submitted to the TGNA by our government"

Expressing that there could be aspects which are favoured or not favoured in the package and adding that that was a proposal, Bagis noted the following:

"I advise the opposing parties raising objections against the package without seeing it, to examine this package. Let us prepare all together the articles that will pave the way for the citizens of Turkish Republic and for the people living in this country. You haven't cooperated with us in preparing this proposal, then let's work together in order to render this package more excellent. Apart from not making any contribution to Turkish democracy, the ones who object the package without seeing it may give serious harms to the democracy. I would like to emphasize that we perceive the package process in Turkey as a serious sincerity process. That is a great opportunity for some politicians who give harm to democracy to forswear within the framework of democracy. Let's make Turkey have a democracy in EU standards and in universal standards.

In his speech stating that the unions constituted one of the important trivets of democracy, Bagis pointed out that the existence of the unions within the European Trade Unions Confederation for many years was a very important indicator of Turkey's Europeanism and said: "I would like to emphasize that the works in Turkey aimed at labour and unionism play a very important role in the development of democracy and in the increase of the dialogue.
